March of 2012 I’d had enough. I was sick and tired of being the “fat” friend that everyone has had at one point in their life. I had already hit my all time low several years earlier when I broke my highest weight ever (not even going to mention it, because speaking those numbers brings me to tears).
<—- This isn’t even near that weight, probably around 30 lbs less but still giantess…
So, instead of whining like you see those shows on Discovery Health and whatever it’s called now; I decided to do something about it. I’m one of those types of personalities that just isn’t going to do anything until I’ve either become fed up, tired or pissed. Well, I’d become all three.
I signed up for Weight Watchers because after all Jennifer Hudson looked good! I lost 7 lbs my first week! WOO HOO!!!! I gained 9 lbs back weeks 2-4! WOO ooooh wait a second…
The following month, I signed up to a small gym near my town and dedicated myself to 2-3 times a week. That was a huge step for me. I started seeing small results and decided to try this on my own and ditch Weight Watchers because it was obvious that it wasn’t working out between us…
The first month was brutal! I was sore, but I wasn’t really losing the weight like I wanted to. So, I decided to up the time at the gym from 30 minutes every 2-3 days to 1 hour every day M-F. I took up their “free” personal trainer and learned how to use some of the machines to hit the areas that at that time I was most concerned with (a.k.a. bingo arms, chicken wings, thunder thighs) and decided I’d give myself a few months to get into the swing of things and see how it goes.
I won’t bore you with all the big details, but I will leave you with this. In just 5 short months I managed to lose 50 lbs! and then I promptly got pregnant 😉
How did I manage to lose roughly 10 lbs per month? Well, not by using Weight Watchers THAT’S for sure! 😉
The old fashioned way, diet and exercise. When WW didn’t work out for me, I decided to go back to something that had worked in my youth; counting calories. The ONLY thing that I counted, was the calories that I consumed. I didn’t care about fat grams, carbs, etc.; only what went in WHICH included alcoholic drinks too.
I found a really useful website called my fitness pal and created a free account there. I started logging in daily with my food consumption and quickly realized that if I exercised for that full hour (which consisted of 30 minutes on the arc trainer/elliptical and 30 minutes of weigh machines), I was burning off anywhere between 500-800 calories. I then learned about the 30 minute circuit training when I hit my first plateau. I started alternating that between the arc trainer and bam! Magic happened! So, in keeping my calorie intake to around 1200 calories a day I was able to drop almost 10 lbs a month. It’s really quite simple, mind boggling if you think about it.
This is me (on the right) after having successfully dropped just about 50 lbs. I hit the 50 lb mark after finding out I was pregnant and being blessed with morning sickness. 😉
So, the moral to my story? No longer the “fat friend”, but on my way to being a hawt momma! You can follow my weigh loss journey when I start it up again on my personal weight loss blog at www.cgwlc.com. You can also look me up on my fitness pal under SpicyPepper. Baby Jake is due anytime between May 29th to June 12th. I expect to be back into the swing of things again come July 1st.
